Free- and reversible deactivation radical (co)polymerization of isobutylene in water under environmentally benign conditions

نویسندگان

چکیده

The synthesis of a linear polyisobutylene is achieved for the first time by free radical polymerization. reaction was performed in environmentally friendly conditions, i.e., an aqueous medium using cyclodextrin solubilizer, around room temperature. This mild and straightforward polymerization resulted predominantly polymer with low dispersity. Isobutylene also copolymerized acrylamide via this assisted free-radical polymerization, leading to new poly(isobutylene-co-acrylamide) amphiphilic copolymers. feed composition copolymerization had huge effect on and, therefore, resulting copolymer's solubility. Reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) isobutylene carried out PEG-based symmetrical macro agent. Poly(PEG-b-isobutylene-b-PEG) block-copolymer formed one-pot reaction. novel method opens new, benign routes produce copolymers various applications.

Effect of Small Reaction Locus in Free-Radical Polymerization: Conventional and Reversible-Deactivation Radical Polymerization "2279

Abstract: When the size of a polymerization locus is smaller than a few hundred nanometers, such as in miniemulsion polymerization, each locus may contain no more than one key-component molecule, and the concentration may become much larger than the corresponding bulk polymerization, leading to a significantly different rate of polymerization. By focusing attention on the component having the l...

Threshold Particle Diameters in Miniemulsion Reversible-Deactivation Radical Polymerization

Various types of controlled/living radical polymerizations, or using the IUPAC recommended term, reversible-deactivation radical polymerization (RDRP), conducted inside nano-sized reaction loci are considered in a unified manner, based on the polymerization rate expression, Rp = kp[M]K[Interm]/[Trap]. Unique miniemulsion polymerization kinetics of RDRP are elucidated on the basis of the followi...

Experimental observation of crossover from noncondensed to counterion condensed regimes during free radical polyelectrolyte copolymerization under high-composition drift conditions.

By combining detailed online kinetics of comonomer consumption with light scattering, viscosity, and conductivity data, experimental detection of changing degrees of counterion condensation was achieved by using comonomers of widely separated reactivity ratios that produced large composition drifts during synthesis. Endproducts of such syntheses contained mixtures of chains of widely varying li...

Synthesis of Glycopolymer Architectures by Reversible-Deactivation Radical Polymerization

This review summarizes the state of the art in the synthesis of well-defined glycopolymers by Reversible-Deactivation Radical Polymerization (RDRP) from its inception in 1998 until August 2012. Glycopolymers architectures have been successfully synthesized with four major RDRP techniques: Nitroxide-mediated radical polymerization (NMP), cyanoxyl-mediated radical polymerization (CMRP), atom tran...
